Experimental Typography

Experimental Typography was an article by Peter Balik, in which he discussed his opinion on experimental typography. I made a book in response to this article. My goal was to create a fun and interesting way to represent how I reacted to the article. While reading Experimental Typography I noticed that it was slightly confusing, and I found myself saying “What, Peter? You crazy!”
which inspired this idea to have my own voice, as well as Baliks voice apparent in the book.
I decided to represent myself on green velum which would then overlay the text from the article. That way you were able to read what Peter Balik wrote, and then flip the velum over, and literally see my reaction to it. I wrote directly onto the velum in the book, so they really are true and raw reactions. For the images in the book I decided to use music, I felt that music was this kind of parallel to typography. Something new comes out and everyone freaks out about how ‘experimental’ it is, but in twenty years, its just another oldie.
